Day 13: Consent Skill Number 1 – Listening

Who doesn’t love a listener?

If I could choose one consent skill for my children, it would be listening.

It would be listening that is curious and present; listening that is keen on understanding other people or connecting with them. It can also be listening to hold space without giving your own opinion. What kind of listening we choose will depend on what the other person is needing.

The gift of space, to let others speak, is one of the most precious gifts we can give. We can sharpen our listening skills by practicing them. We can also practice presence and tuning into what other people want. Practicing taking turns is an excellent habit for when your kids get older.

Listening in a structured way in alignment with the Wheel of Consent is meditation. The speaker receives the gift – but the feeling of gratitude is for both. It is simple and yet profound magic ❤
