#Day 15 Consent clever (or "How to get what you want!")
My daughter asks me: "Can you fix me pancakes?"
I say, "No, I'm cleaning the kitchen, and you know how to do it."
She puts them on a plate and asks, "Can you heat them up for me?" From a negative point of view, I guess it could be seen as nagging. But it is a slightly different question, and it proves to be a successful tactic.
I say "yes" because she needs a chair to reach the microwave. Then she asks me "Can you put jam on them?" I say “Sure!” because while I wait for the microwave, it's easy to prepare the jam. "Could you slice them too?", she says from the living room. I say "yes," knowing I slice a lot quicker than she, and I carry them to her.
While I'm standing there preparing her pancakes, I realize that she has great leadership skills. The ones that make both Giving and Receiving a pleasure. I said no to preparing it all, but in smaller chunks, it became a pleasure. There was no difference in the action. It was all about how she asked for it.
Consent educators teach consent language, and learning to communicate better brings so much positivity and joy for all involved. Not to mention, you get more of what you want😉❤
